MARIO MERIGO - CONDUCTOR As Venetian, he is considered one of the most interesting conductors of his generation. He started his studies at a very early age, dedicating part of them to learning piano and later studying violin with Sirio Piovesan. He graduated at the conservatoire "Benedetto Marcello" in Venice, recieving his diplomas in Violin, Choral music and Chorus Conductor. He completed his studies in composition with Ugo Amendola and at the same time attended the faculty of literature and philosophy at the Università di Venezia, where he graduated with a thesis on history of music. He specialized in conducting with Karl Österreicher, the successor of Hans Swarowski, at the renowned Academy of Vienna, he then attended a course of singing and vocal interpretation held by Massimo Pradella and Anne Dorè at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice. Fundamental was his acquaintance with the conductor Carl Melles, with whom he deepened his knowledge of the large symphonic repertoire. He distinguished himself at the International Contest "Carlo Zecchi" for conductors held in Rome in 1989.He started out very young with a brilliant career that has resulted in conducting European orchestras for the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and for the "Festival dei Due Mondi" in Spoleto, making him appreciated for his vast repertoire that ranges from antic to contemporary music. He conducted the premier performances of Sylvano Bussotti, Curt Cacioppo, Aldo Clementi, Luis De Pablo, Alessandro Solbiati, broadcasted by Rai3. He published the opera of Hasse, Piramo e Tisbe, for "Mondo Musica".In the Basilica of San Marco in Venice he conducted the Requiem KV 626 by Mozart, with a prestigious cast of solo voices which included the soprano Lucia Mazzaria and the basso Michail Petrenko, finalist at the Callas competition. He has started, by cunducting Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart last may at the Teatro Goldoni in Venice, a whole project dedicated to Mozart, which continued in August with Così fan tutte and will conclude in 2002 with a new production of the Don Giovanni.Recently he has conducted the Matrimonio Segreto by Cimarosa. At the present he is Musical Director of the Orchestra Symphonia Veneziana. Mr. Merigo is also particularly active in the teaching field. He has been teacher at the conservatoire "Benedetto Marcello" in Venice and has held several lectures as well as pubblished various writings concerning music, for magazines. As Artistic Director for the "Amici della Musica di Venezia" he has organized at the Teatro La Fenice two, very much appreciated, seasons dedicated to chamber music.Italiano |
